Z-Bar Bird at Capilano University North Vancouver

December 2019 saw the grand opening of Capilano University's new satellite location, CapU Lonsdale. The campus is conveniently located in North Vancouver's Shipyards complex and includes six classrooms and an open-layout, multi-functional space.

The space’s theme was "bringing the outdoors inside." There are many metaphorical references to nature throughout the designated area. The grey and green carpeting represents a trail through the forest in the grass, tables are stained to emulate moss after a Vancouver winter, a "waterfall bar" incorporates local stone, and Koncept's Z-Bar Pendant Birds playfully interact with the wooden ceiling installations, which represent giant leaves in the forest canopy.

The pendants were selected by Interior Designers Sara Remocker and Michele Sigurdson, from the Vancouver, Canada studio of DIALOG. DIALOG is a multi-disciplinary design firm whose team of architects, engineers, planners and interior designers are passionate about sustainable design. They believe that they can–and should–meaningfully improve the wellbeing of communities and the environment we all share.

The Z-Bar Pendants are quite energy efficient, which enabled DIALOG to install fifteen of these lights while adhering to energy consumption boundaries.
